Andrew (known as AJ) is five years old and has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. AJ is unable to walk unaided and uses a k-walker frame to walk, He also wears splints on his legs and has physiotherapy daily and medication 3 times a day.
We have found an operation in America called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. This involves the cutting of nerves in the spine which will release the spasticity (tension) in AJ’s muscles. This will eradicate all pain caused by the CP and allow him to jump, hop, skip, and join in with his older brother’s playing football.
The drawback? It is going to have total costs of up to £50,000. This covers the cost of the surgery the flights and accommodation for one month.
